The 2021 ANCC Magnet Prize

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is proud to launch the 2021 ANCC Magnet Prize®, sponsored by Cerner, a leading supplier of health care information technology. By sponsoring the ANCC Magnet Prize with its $75,000.00 purse, Cerner is committed to ANCC's focus on the promotion of innovation in nursing to increase the knowledge base and support for patient safety and nursing excellence.

Established in 2002 by the ANCC Board of Directors, the ANCC Magnet Prize is presented to a Magnet designated organization whose program or project best represents exemplary achievements in patient care services, including initiatives in healthcare delivery and research leading to innovations that result in positive outcomes. The 2021 ANCC Magnet Prize winner will have one year to further develop their innovative program or project after which they will return the following year to present their program/project outcomes at the 2022 ANCC National Magnet Conference®.

Nominations will be evaluated by a blinded peer review process conducted by a committee of national nursing leaders that includes chief nursing officers (CNOs) from prior Magnet Prize-winning organizations, as well as members of the Commission on Magnet Recognition Program and the ANCC Board of Directors.

Eligibility Criteria

• Only one nomination will be accepted each year from a given Magnet-designated organization regardless of size, setting, or location.
• Magnet Prize is awarded to a single organization. Only one organization and that organization's nurses are recognized as Magnet Prize winners.
• The nominated organization must be currently designated Magnet and in good standing through October 31, 2022
• Magnet Prize winners are prohibited from submitting another Magnet Prize nomination for two years following their winning innovation.

Online Submission Steps and Instructions:

1. Fee

   None

2. Award Attestation

   Read and acknowledge the Eligibility Criteria and attest to requirements of the Magnet Prize.

   NOTE: Any "no" answers to this attestation will result in disqualification.

   • Only one nomination will be accepted each year from any given Magnet designated organization regardless of size, setting, or location.
   
   
   • Nominating individual warrants that the nominated organization is currently designated Magnet and in good standing through October 31, 2022
     AND
   • The nominated organization has not been awarded the Magnet Prize in the past two years.
   
   
   • Nominating individual warrants that the organization's compliance officer and/or legal counsel have been consulted and that the organization is not prohibited from accepting the Magnet Prize Award or any related benefit.
   
   
   • Nominating individual warrants that the organization will attend the Magnet Prize reception if the organization is selected as the winner.
   
   
   • Nominating individual warrants that the organization agrees to use the language "ANCC Magnet Prize^TM, sponsored by Cerner" in all references to the Magnet Prize.
   
   
   • The CNO must read and acknowledge the Eligibility Criteria and attest to requirements of the Magnet Prize.
   
   

3. Magnet® Model Component

   Assign the nomination to one of the five Magnet® Model Components.

4. Title

   Enter as the title of nomination being submitted for the ANCC Magnet Prize.

5. People

   For the nominating individual and CNO (if different from the nominating individual): Enter name, credentials, title, affiliation, and contact information.

6. Documentation for Nomination

   1. The online nomination must describe how:

   
   

   • An identified problem or need has been or is being addressed by the organization through extraordinary innovation - the application of creativity or problem solving that results in a widely adopted strategy, product, or service to meet the need in a new and different way.
   
   
   • Nurses initiated the innovation.
   
   
   • The innovation involved or involves a collaborative effort in its conception and implementation at the organization that is inclusive of staff nurses and other services as appropriate.
   
   
   • The innovation is transformative of nursing, patient care, or the nursing environment at the organization.
   
   
   • The innovation has resulted in or is leading to positive outcomes
   
   
   • The innovation is clearly enduring and able to be replicated in other settings
   
   

   2. Nomination must

   
   

   • Describe the innovation - the application of creativity or problem solving that results in a widely adopted strategy, product, or service to meet the need in a new and different way. (300 words or less)
   
   
   • Describe the innovative program's / project's progress to date and expectations for the future or the expected timeline of the innovative program's / project's development and implementation. (150 words or less)
   
   
   • Describe the existing and/or projected benefits of implementing the innovation. (200 words or less)
   
   
   • How is the innovation extraordinary and creative in meeting the need of the organization in a new and different way? (150 words or less)
   
   
   • Describe how nursing initiated the innovation and the interprofessional staff who were involved in developing the innovation. (150 words or less)
   
   
   • How does the innovation demonstrate the impact of nursing in the organization? (200 words or less)
   
   
   • How does the innovation have the potential to transform nursing practice and health care nationally and/or internationally? Include how the innovation is enduring and able to be replicated in other settings. (250 words or less)
   
   
   • Supporting Evidence:
     • Upload a document that demonstrates the measure(s) of effectiveness and/or performance target(s) used to assess the impact of the innovation; include graphed data e.g., outcome measure(s) to demonstrate improvement in quality, cost effectiveness, or efficiency (no more than 2 pages and in .pdf format).
     • Upload an annotated bibliography that reflects the literature review which documents how this project / program is different from past efforts (no more than 2 pages and in .pdf format)

7. Confirmation

   You will have a chance to look over the submission to make sure all is complete before submitting the nomination.

8. Nomination Process and Deadline Dates

   The nomination website details all nomination information and walks nominators through the submission process step-by-step. Please Note: The ANCC Magnet Prize Committee will review only completed applications.

   Deadline: Nominators must complete submissions by 11:59 pm EDT on Thursday, June 3, 2021. ANCC will notify winners no later than September 15, 2021.

   • Nominations must be completed through the online submission website.
   • Specific instructions on the preparation of the nomination and supplemental material are described on the nomination page.
   • Please "blind" all references made to the submitting organization in the description of the innovation.
   • Nominations for the Magnet Prize may be submitted by any representative of a Magnet organization who is familiar with the innovation.
   • The Nominating individual and CNO must be listed on the nomination, with contact information.
   • Confirmation of submission will be sent to the e-mail address of the nominating individual.

9. Rules

   • Previous winners are excluded from eligibility for 24 months
   
   
   • Submitting a nomination constitutes agreement that the nominating individual and CNO agree to be bound by the rules of the Magnet Prize program.
   
   
   • The example must be relevant to one of the five Magnet® Model Components.
   
   
   • The individual submitting the nomination warrants that disclosure of material submitted with or in support does not breach the terms of any other contract or agreements, that s/he is entitled to use the material, and that if any permissions are needed to use the material, s/he has obtained those permissions.
   
   
   • The individual submitting the nomination warrants that the organization is not prohibited from accepting the Magnet Prize award nor any other related benefit and that the organization will attend the Magnet Prize reception. If the organization is unable to accept the Magnet Prize award or related benefits, the organization must notify the ANCC Magnet Prize Committee in its nomination.
   
   
   • One hundred percent of the award money must be used for the development and implementation of the innovation.
   
   
   • The Winner must be present to accept the award at the ANCC National Magnet Conference®.
   
   
   • Award recipients will be asked to provide a brief overview of their project during the acceptance of the award.
   
   
   • The Magnet Prize Winner will agree to use "the ANCC Magnet Prize® sponsored by Cerner" in all references made to the prize.
   
   
   • Approximately six months after the award is presented, the Magnet Prize winning organization will be required to submit an accounting to ANCC of how the award money is being utilized.
   
   
   • An ANCC Executive or designee will join a Cerner nursing executive in a visit to the Magnet Prize-winning organization to see the progress of the innovation.
   
   
   • Award recipients will return to the Magnet Conference the following year to deliver a short presentation on the innovation at a general session, according to ANCC guidelines. Winners must agree to work with ANCC to prepare the presentation prior to the Magnet Conference
   
   
   • The Magnet Prize committee will consider only properly submitted applications and material submitted with or in support thereof.
   
   
   • The decision of the Magnet Prize committee is final.
   
   
   • Material submitted with or in support of any nomination shall be received on the conditions that:
   
   
   • The Magnet Prize committee shall have permission to use and display submitted materials in any manner it deems appropriate and to not return such material or any portion thereof to the nominating individual(s).
   
   
   • The Magnet Prize committee may make such disclosure of the names of the nominees and of the work disclosed in such material as the committee deems appropriate.
   
   
   • No claim shall be made and no action shall be brought against the American Nurses Credentialing Center, its board of directors, employees, or members of the Magnet Prize committee arising out of the use made of such nomination material or of any such disclosure.
   
   
   • The Magnet Prize Committee will not return such material or any portion thereof to the nominee or the nominators.
   
   

10. Prize

    • The Magnet Prize is presented during the ANCC National Magnet Conference®
    
    
    • Cerner sponsors the ANCC Magnet Prize with a $75,000 monetary award
