Call for Abstracts

Dates for Submission

Submissions will be accepted beginning Friday, March 23, 2018. The deadline for abstract submissions is 11:59 PM Eastern on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

Notification

Accepted poster and concurrent podium session presenters will be notified in August 2018. If you do not receive notification of acceptance or rejection for your abstract by the end of August 2018, please send an email inquiry to conference staff at ANANurseCE@ana.org.

Judging Criteria

Abstracts will be considered based on how well they fulfill the goals of the 2019 ANA Quality and Innovation Conference. All selections are made based on merit, with additional consideration given to those with a strong innovation focus. There is no limit to the number of abstracts that may be submitted by a person or organization.

Conference Goals

Through participating in the ANA Quality and Innovation Conference, the nurse will be able to:

  1. Generate innovative processes, technology, and data to enhance professional practice and to highlight the value of nursing.
  2. Design quality and safety initiatives through the lens of high reliability organizations, to improve patient and nursing outcomes.
  3. Develop innovative principles and strategies to improve quality and safety that results in improved outcomes for and engagement of patients and families as full care partners.

Abstracts submitted should relate to one or more of the conference goals.

Who may submit?

  • Any submitter who has nursing related projects related to the conference goals.
  • Submissions may not be from groups or persons with commercial interests.

Online Submission Steps and Instructions:

    Each abstract will be evaluated through a blinded, peer review process. Abstracts will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

    • Presentation of Abstract: grammar, spelling, clarity
    • Content: substantive, current, of interest to potential attendees, outcomes presented
    • Relevance to 2019 ANA Quality and Innovation Conference
    • Relevance to the conference goals

  3. Presenter Requirements

    If accepted for presentation, all abstract presenters must:

    • Submit required forms in electronic format as directed by the deadlines given.
    • Register for and attend the conference. Unfortunately, ANA is unable to discount or waive registration costs for presenters.
    • Assume all costs related to travel, accommodations, and registration.

    Poster presenters will be required to:

    • Submit the final electronic version of the poster in PDF format by January 17, 2019, 11:59 p.m. E.T.
    • Once the final version of the poster is submitted and approved, no changes can be made.
    • Bring their poster to the conference for display.
    • Be present to answer questions during designated times as part of the conference continuing education program.

    Podium presenters will be required to:

    • Non-Paired Presentations: Speak for 50 minutes minimum, followed by 10 minutes of Q&A. All sessions must be 60 minutes in total length in order to fulfill CE requirements.
    • Paired Presentation: Certain abstracts may be accepted for a paired presentation. A paired presentation must last for 20-25 minutes. The last 10-15 minutes of the session the paired presenters will participate in a Q&A.
    • Other Formats: At times, the program planning team may elect for other types of oral presentations. Details will be provided at a later time on the specific requirements.
    • Submit the final electronic version of their slide presentation by January 17, 2019, 11:59 p.m. E.T.
    • Once the final version of the presentation is submitted and approved, no changes can be made.

    Submitters must complete submissions through the online submission website. The website details all abstract submission information and walks submitters through the process step-by-step. Submitters must complete submissions by ​11:59 PM Eastern on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Note: ANA will review only completed applications.

    The 2019 ANA Quality and Innovation Conference will be held in Orlando, FL, on April 24 -26, 2019.
