ANCC's 6th Annual Nursing Quality Conference
January 25-27, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada
The American Nurses Association is providing the annual Nursing Quality conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The theme for this year's conference is Improving the Odds on Quality. ABSTRACT SUBMISSION CLOSED
The deadlines to enter new abstracts and to edit existing abstracts have been reached.
Abstracts:
- Must be submitted online.
- Can be submitted for only one presentation format: oral or poster.
- Abstracts submitted for oral presentations will be automatically considered for both oral and poster presentation.
- Abstracts submitted for poster presentations may not necessarily be considered for oral presentation.
- Can be submitted to only one track: research or innovative strategies.
- Can be submitted to only one conference topic area.
- Will undergo blind peer review by topic committees.
- Notification will be sent to the primary contact by the end of July.
- Add ancc@confex.com to your address book in order to ensure you receive communication regarding your abstract submission.
- If your abstract is accepted, you will need to respond to the invitation by the designated date in the invitation.
Conference Goals and Topic Areas
Conference Goals
- Distinguish methods for achieving and sustaining change for improvement with nursing sensitive quality measures.
- Combine key aspects and components of the nursing workforce and nursing processes related to patient outcomes.
- Determine technological advances for nursing quality outcome measurement.
- Model and outline the development of new nursing measures and their definitions in specialty areas for new populations or non-acute care settings.
- Distinguish leading national quality policy and its impact in nursing practice at the local, state and national level.
Conference Topic Areas
Abstracts are being sought for presentations or posters in the following topic areas. Abstracts must demonstrate one of the following:
- Achieving and sustaining change for improvement
- Explain the use of implementation science in achieving sustained improvement.
- Describe how sustained improvement was achieved in NDNQI nursing sensitive quarterly measures or NDNQI RN survey measures.
- Determine the attributes that impact the organizational climate in order to achieve sustained quality improvement.
- Outline how data reliability was assured in order to measure nursing quality improvement.
- Nursing workforce characteristics and processes with outcomes
- Compile key elements of nursing processes which would be related to patient outcomes.
- Correlate aspects of the nursing workforce that are related to patient outcomes.
- Technologic advances for outcome measurement
- Examine impact of real-time monitoring of patient outcome data.
- Contrast barriers and solutions for evaluating patient outcomes.
- Compare data gathered from prevalence studies vs. incidence reporting.
- Describe models of quantitative or qualitative data extracted from electronic health records.
- Identify quality measurement elements for inclusion in patient portal documentation that supports customized disease and health manccgement plans related to meaningful use.
- Development of nursing quality measures in specialty areas, based on population or setting, e.g. ambulatory, etc.
- Differentiate measure development, evaluation, and implementation.
- Discriminate the nursing sensitive aspect of the specialty area measure.
- National quality policy and nursing practice
- Distinguish national quality policy and various implementation initiatives.
- Differentiate initiatives that have direct nursing practice implication at the local, state and national level.
- Determine nursing’s role in interprofessional implementation initiatives.

- Read Abstract Author Instructions below and gather required information
- Read Abstract Format Guidelines (Abstract Format Tab) and prepare each abstract section in compliance with Guidelines
- Click link "submit your abstract" link above or to the right
- Complete online submission form:
- Enter the title of your abstract (Limited to 120 characters, including spaces. Should clearly indicate the specific nature of the study or project)
- Select oral or poster presentation format
- Select research or innovative strategy track
- Select conference topic area
- Enter one or two learner objectives (Limited to 200 characters, including spaces)
- Enter author information
- Enter each section of the abstract text in the spaces provided (The sections differ between the two tracks and are described below.)
- You may NOT include any of the following in the abstract text:
- Charts
- Graphs
- Tables
- Underlines
- Bullet points
- Indentations
- References
- Submit abstract
NOTE: Abstracts submitted with incomplete author information or violating any of the submission guidelines will not be considered.

Abstract Author Instructions
- Up to five authors can be listed on each abstract.
- One author must be identified as the primary contact person. As all correspondence will be conducted via email with the primary contact person, email address must be valid. The primary contact person is responsible for communication with other authors and for ensuring compliance with copyright law.
- You will be required to submit the following for each co-author:
- First and last name
- Street address, city, state/province, zip code
- Email address
- Phone number (primary contact only)
- Biographical data:
- Job title, description of present position
- Institution, major, and graduation date for each degree
- Brief (maximum 800 characters including spaces) description of work experience
- Financial disclosure form (conflict of interest declaration)
- If you have coauthors, but do not complete the co-author information, you will not be able to complete the abstract submission.
- Presenters of accepted abstracts will be required to:
- Submit a speaker release form
- Register for the conference, and assume costs related to travel, accommodations, and registration

Conference Tracks
Conference Tracks
RESEARCH TRACK ABSTRACTS
Research track abstracts are limited to completed or nearly completed research. Research can be original or replicated studies. Research must focus on one of the conference topic areas. Preference will be given to research incorporating some aspect of NDNQI participation. Abstracts must describe the research purpose, significance, methods, sample, results, conclusions, and implications for practice. In addition, one or two measurable learner objectives must be identified.

INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES TRACK ABSTRACTS
Innovative Strategies track abstracts focus on strategies implemented by nurses to address issues related to quality improvement, nursing administration, nurse staffing, nursing workforce, nursing practice, or patient care. Innovative Strategies track abstracts must focus on one of the conference topic areas. Preference will be given to abstracts incorporating some aspect of NDNQI participation. Abstracts must include a description the purpose (i.e., issue or problem addressed), the innovative strategy implemented, an evaluation of the effectiveness, and implications for practice. In addition, one or two measurable learner objectives must be identified.

The online abstract submittal system will strictly enforce the abstract text format described above. Each element will be entered in a separate box in the order shown. Size limits are measured in characters, not words, and include spaces. Do not include section headings in the text you enter (The headings will be rendered automatically by the abstract system when displaying what you have entered).

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What is the submission deadline for the abstracts?
A: The deadline for all abstracts is Monday, June 20, 2011. Submissions that are incomplete at this time will be withdrawn.
- Q: How long can the abstracts be?
A: Character counts are limited for each section of the abstract, and depend on what track you are submitting to. Click here for the specific character counts.
- Q: When will I know if my abstract has been accepted?
A: You will receive an e-mail after notifying you if your abstract has been accepted.
- Q: I've already begun a submission, how do I return to it?
A: When you began your submission, you should have received an email which contains a link directly back to your submission. Or, you can log into your submission on the right side of this page.
- Q: I began a submission, but didn't recieve any emails.
A: Make sure that the email address entered on the title step is correct. Please also make sure that you've added ancc@confex.com to your address book.
- Q: I don't remember my login information.

NDNQI® has been a leader in collecting nursing-sensitive indicators at the unit level since 1998. The database collects structure, process and outcome indicators from over 1,700 participating hospitals throughout the United States. This unique conference provides opportunities to recognize quality issues that are heating up in nursing practice and how it relates to addressing organizational performance to improve patient outcomes.
